About

Dr. Ayman Harake is a Consultant General, Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon in Beirut with more than 30 years of clinical, academic and leadership experience. He is internationally trained in colorectal and minimally invasive surgery, with extensive expertise in advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the American University of Beirut in 1986 and completed his board certification in General Surgery there in 1991, followed by postgraduate training in colorectal and laparoscopic surgery at Watford General Hospital in England.

He has since completed advanced surgical training across Europe: abdominal wall surgery in Ghent, advanced laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, gastric, colorectal and hernia surgery at the European Surgical Institute in Hamburg, and metabolic and bariatric surgery courses in Paris, Elancourt and Hamburg.

He is Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the Lebanese University and has been Clinical Associate in the Department of Surgery at the American University of Beirut Medical Center since 1998. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Arab Board Scientific Council, and Chairman of the Arab Board Examination Committee in General Surgery.

He has led surgical departments as Head of the Division of General Surgery at Sahel General Hospital since 2015, and as Chairman of its Department of Surgery from 2012 to 2014. He served as President of the Lebanese Laparoscopic Surgery Society from 2008 to 2011 and is Treasurer of the Mediterranean & Middle Eastern Endoscopic Surgery Association.

His clinical practice covers advanced laparoscopic surgery, bariatric and metabolic surgery — including sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding and gastric plication — alongside colorectal surgery, abdominal wall and hernia surgery, and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He has published on laparoscopic gastric banding and bypass, choledochal cysts, familial male breast cancer and the management of cystobiliary fistula, and supervises theses at the Lebanese University.
